Ok so yesterday I was doing D'Alessio seaboard and got grouped with a PuG.
Halfway through the mission they kept yelling at me for not doing enough dps [I am a necromancer] and they did not understand I was a support energy booster. I am really tired of asking my guild for favors all the time to help me with missions. What are some tips on how to be in better pugs

Specify what role you (would) play in a pug, example: BiP necro LFG mission + bonus
If invited to a team, always ping your build, even when they don't ask for it.

Discussing each person's role in a party should take place before starting the mission/quest/whatever. It's the party leader's job to get that stuff sorted out when forming the party.

Pinging your build is OK, but it can backfire ("OMG! That's not [or is] a PvX build! Kick the noob!"), especially for a new player that doesn't have a large selection of skills at their disposal. I think a better thing to do is to ask "What do you need me to do?" and set your skills to meet that need.

The only other piece of advice I can give you is to develope a thick skin, because you're always going to run into people who think that their way is the "best" way.

I would echo the above comments about thick skins. You are always going to run into bad PUGs.

It does help though to use certain build types when PUG'ing. For example, you'd probably get less flack if you had a basic Curses DPS build or MM as a Necro. I can only say that, if you were in a PUG with me, I wouldn't care what your build was - I'm pretty sure I could do D'Seaboard with just Me and 3 heroes, so anything else is gravy.

Sorry to be blunt, but it is your mistake to play BiP necro unless rest of group know it in advance to switch to energy-heavier builds. Without prior knowledge they are already bringing enough energy management for their builds and excess energy is not so big help.

I have only completed Prophecies, so I'm a bit of a newb, but for what it's worth, first, I'm not sure how they actually determine anyone's DPS, so if you know a tool that provides this, I'd love to know about it. Second, I don't belong to a guild so I have pug'ed my way thru all the missions that I needed help with and you just have to hope for the best...some are good, some are not. If you get in a bad party, just wait for the next to form. Instead of support, try a MM or SS build... and you should be able to do D'Alessio seaboard with henchies only. After you work your way to the Offering to Melandru (bonus) .. dont pick it up. Go protect Confessor Dorian then clear the walls around him, then go back and pick up the Offering to Melandru and deliver it to the other pedestal, then complete the mission. You don't need a pug for this mission.

What others have said: ask your party (specifically the leader) what they want, and try to bring it. BiP can be useful if your party needs it, but if they don't you're a waste of a slot.

i've noticed that most of the decent players (decent is referring to behaviour and no offense is meant) have quit GW and those who are still playing are basically just preparring for GW 2 (finishing titles etc). what is left are stupid kids who tend to boost their own ego by telling you how they are awesome and you are just a noob so here is my suggestion: option 1: do everything with henchies and heroes option 2: get some friends who actually enjoy playing with you and you enjoy playing with to just do stuff together. option 3: whisper me (Tichi Geekswad) and i will help you. i'm especially interested in vanquishes around jade sea but if you are having trouble with a mission or a quest just give me a whisp and i'll help u ASAP. however there is no point in sending me PMs here on forum

just add me ingame and contact me when i'm on

Guildies
Friends
Pugs
Ai party
There isn't really any other choice so far as I know

I really don't understand what's wrong with some of the parties these days.

Time was a couple of friends would try to form a party, they knew where they were going and what builds they had so tended to ask for additional party members that fitted in.
Single players that were looking for a party would advertise what class and or build type they were, and the mission they wanted to go on.

Not exactly rocket science short messages straight to the point and it seemed to work.
Of course there were bad builds and bad players but it seldom mattered except for the tougher more unforgiving missions.

Players and party leaders should lighten up and if they cannot play nicely they should abuse the Ai parties not the players.

PUGs still form like that occasionally, particularly for the WiK content. Whenever new content is released for it, there's a solid 3 days or so of good PUGs forming.

don't worry at all is my opinion. anyone using the term DPS for a caster class isn't very well acquainted with Guild Wars (especially since you're a necro). Ignore all people who complain like that, honestly. even if you're doing it completely wrong you're playing the game how you want, and if all a group can do is complain about your build rather than try to compliment your skills with their own then they aren't very skilled.

but don't be put down by bad pugs, although there are quite a few there are still plenty of good PuGs, just keep trying ;D! if need be ping your build straight away, if you think the group might start harassing you over it.
